Long-Term Responsibility at Origin: Felchlin expands its Commitment

Long-Term Responsibility at Origin: Felchlin expands its Commitment

Sustainability at origin is a core element of the Felchlin philosophy. Through our Healthcare in Cacao Origins initiative, we support access to essential healthcare services for cacao-farming families who supply us with cacao. In doing so, we make a tangible contribution to improving the living conditions of cacao farmers and their families.

In recognition of this commitment, Felchlin was awarded the Swiss Ethics Award in 2025. This distinction has encouraged us to continue along this path with determination and to further develop our projects for the long term.

Advancing Healthcare in Cacao Origins

To secure and further enhance the long-term impact of our healthcare projects, Felchlin will assume full financing of the programme as of 1 July 2026. This provides a stable foundation for the continued development of our healthcare initiatives and creates a transparent basis for communication with our business partners.

New Resources for Your Communication

From now on, the Felchlin Extranet will provide communication materials, key figures and background information about our healthcare projects. These resources will be available to all customers and may be used for their own communication activities. We will keep you informed about the availability of new content.

Strengthening and Expanding Our Long-Term Commitment

A further step in the development of our commitment is strengthening Felchlin’s long-term responsibility for healthcare access in the countries of origin. This also includes integrating the Salama Mateza pilot project in Madagascar into Felchlin’s healthcare commitment. Launched in 2021 and continued by our local partner from 2023 onwards, the project was fully reintegrated into Felchlin’s healthcare commitment as of 1 June 2026. In doing so, Felchlin reaffirms its commitment to cacao farmers and their families.

Today, our healthcare commitment comprises five projects across four countries of origin. Through Akwaaba (Ghana), Salud Sur del Lago (Venezuela), Salud Esmeraldas (Ecuador), Yanapari (Ecuador), and Salama Mateza (Madagascar), we support cacao-farming families in gaining access to improved primary healthcare services and in strengthening their economic stability over the long term.

Impact of Our Commitment

Currently, 2,391 families, representing 9,263 people, benefit from improved access to healthcare in our countries of origin. To date, 3,937 people have made use of healthcare services, of whom 53.9% are women. In addition, 15,594 insurance claims have been successfully processed. Data as of 2 July 2026, excluding Salama Mateza; data collection for this project was formally resumed on 1 June 2026.

These figures demonstrate how targeted healthcare initiatives contribute to social stability and sustainably improve the living conditions of cacao farmers and their families. Good health is a fundamental prerequisite for long-term development, resilient communities and sustainable value creation at origin.

This commitment reflects our ambition to live Passion and Responsibility from Origin to Enjoyment Around the World. We thank you for your interest in our work at origin and look forward to continuing the journey towards responsible and sustainable sourcing together.
